NEW! Best Stocks to Buy

In a follow up to my problems with diversification post, I further my defense of concentrated portfolios by sharing how I set up my young son's custodial account.

He owns just 3 stocks, which led to a personal epiphany on my part. See how reflecting on my son's concentrated investments made me rethink my own long term investments.

Problems with Diversification and the Case for a Concentrated Portfolio

Those who know me (or who have read much of this site) know that I'm not a fan of the mutual fund industry or of the index investing crowd.

But I realize that I've lacked a formal Problems with Diversification page that I can easily reference and link to when the topic comes up (as it does with some regularity!) on other site pages.

That is, until now.

Diversification may be fine, and even necessary, for the truly passive and uninterested investor.

But I get riled up when I hear the managed money industry or financial media puff pieces parroting conventional wisdom that's as insulting to self-directed investors (who actually take responsibility for their investing education) as it is useless.

I discuss why "diversification" under performs and why it's not nearly as safe as those with ulterior motives would like you to believe.
